SHOW: JOHN SIMS at 8PM, SLACK TIMES after, RIBS after that.
THE DEAL: $6 ticket gets you into BOXCAR to see two bands and one solo-artist play music with guitars and bass and drums and whatever else they bring. They serve beer and concessions at Boxcar – no outside alcohol is allowed. In the event of a cancellation, tickets will be refunded.
We're stoked for this one. We've been hearing about RIBS from our pals back in NC for a while now and their new record comes out the day of this show on the Three Lobed Label, who you may or may not know for their releases by and collabs with Sonic Youth, Yo La Tengo, Kurt Vile, Tropical Fuck Storm, and many others. They do a talky kind of post-punk that's both raucous and dreamy at times and their two albums have been in heavy rotation these last several months. Slack Times are a jangle pop band from Birmingham – more Pastels or The Clean than their modern analogues. And John Sims should be a familiar face around these parts as he sang and played guitar in Lady Legs, one of the central bands in the Auburn music scene of the late 2010s before he moved to Bham where he now plays in a bunch of other projects, his own included.
